About the Capital Line
The Capital Line is the original — and still the busiest — Edmonton LRT line. It opened in 1978 for the Commonwealth Games and is widely called the first modern light rail line in North America built by a city under a million people, helping kick off the continent’s light rail revival with its Siemens–Duewag U2 cars. Today it runs from Clareview in the northeast, dives into the downtown tunnel — six underground stations — and continues at grade south to Century Park.
Through the city centre the Capital Line shares its tracks and platforms with the Metro Line, from Health Sciences/Jubilee up to Churchill, so on that stretch you can take whichever train comes first. North of Churchill the two split and the Capital Line carries on alone to the northeast. It is the line for the University of Alberta, Commonwealth Stadium and the park-and-ride at Century Park, where the Route 747 bus leaves for the airport.
The Capital Line has 15 stations over about 19 km and takes roughly 36 minutes end to end. Every one of its stations is step-free and it shares platforms with another line at 7 of them along the downtown trunk.

Where you can change lines
Questions about the Capital Line
15 stations, running Clareview to Century Park. End to end it takes about 36 minutes.
On weekdays the first trains leave around 5:10 am and the last around 1:46 am, varying by station — the further along the line, the later the last train passes. There is no overnight service; after the LRT closes, ETS OWL night buses run until about 3 am. First and last train at every station.
$3.00, the same flat fare as every other Edmonton LRT line and the same however far you travel — there are no zones. One fare includes 90 minutes of transfers to other lines and buses at no extra cost.
The Capital and Metro lines share the downtown trunk, so at 7 stations — including Churchill, Central, Bay/Enterprise Square, Corona, Government Centre, University… — the two run from the same platforms and you simply take whichever train comes first. For the Valley Line, change with a short walk at Churchill.
