About the Metro Line
The Metro Line opened in 2015 and links the University of Alberta Hospital area at Health Sciences/Jubilee with NAIT/Blatchford Market in the north. It is a high-floor line that shares the downtown trunk with the Capital Line: south of Churchill the two run together on the same platforms, and only north of Churchill does the Metro branch off northwest towards NAIT.
Its early years were rocky — the line was delayed for years by problems with its Thales SelTrac signalling, a cautionary tale still told in transit circles. That is well behind it now: the extension to NAIT/Blatchford Market opened in January 2024, and a further stop, Blatchford Gate, is built and waiting to enter service as the new Blatchford community grows.
The Metro Line has 10 stations over about 7 km and takes roughly 19 minutes end to end. Every one of its stations is step-free and it shares platforms with another line at 7 of them along the downtown trunk.

Where you can change lines
Questions about the Metro Line
10 stations, running Health Sciences/Jubilee to NAIT/Blatchford Market. End to end it takes about 19 minutes.
On weekdays the first trains leave around 5:25 am and the last around 1:14 am, varying by station — the further along the line, the later the last train passes. There is no overnight service; after the LRT closes, ETS OWL night buses run until about 3 am. First and last train at every station.
$3.00, the same flat fare as every other Edmonton LRT line and the same however far you travel — there are no zones. One fare includes 90 minutes of transfers to other lines and buses at no extra cost.
The Capital and Metro lines share the downtown trunk, so at 7 stations — including Health Sciences/Jubilee, University, Government Centre, Corona, Bay/Enterprise Square, Central… — the two run from the same platforms and you simply take whichever train comes first. For the Valley Line, change with a short walk at Churchill.
